it's not a coldsore ... i swear

Ever bite the inside of your mouth? Then overnight, just like a caterpillar turning into a butterfly, it turns into a canker sore? Except canker sores are not pretty like butterflies. Actually they are grotesque monstrosities that grow and grow and grow. And just when you think it is healing you go off and bite the fuck out of it again.
